A reflection on German-born and France-based Godwin Hoffmann's career, this monograph offers an overview of all his paintings, recounting his singular artistic path for the last 35 years, from his university years in Dusseldorf, Germany, up until today. His unremitting research on shape and color drove him to constantly question his work, which evolved over the years from figurative to non-figurative with a heavy constructivist influence; from a traditional take on art involving easels and canvas to a more challenging and ambitious vision creating pieces halfway between paintings and sculptures interacting with their environment. More than an ordinary catalogue raisonne, this is a book conceived as an installation/exhibition to be considered as a work of art in its own right.
